A group of individuals are falsely representing themselves as employees, volunteers and members of nonprofits in Hawaii, according Sunday’s Child Foundation.

A group of individuals are falsely representing themselves as employees, volunteers and members of nonprofits in Hawaii, according Sunday’s Child Foundation.

Sunday’s Child Foundation is one of the named Hawaii Island organizations affected by the scam. Sunday’s Child Foundation Executive Director Lauren Rainier said individuals are falsely using the identities of their board members and she believes they are trying to solicit donations and other assets for their own gain.

Sunday’s Child Foundation and its members have granted no one the right to engaged in the solicitation of donations or assets on its behalf, Rainier added.

Assuming the identity of an individual and stealing donations are both serious crimes, and fraud punishable by law. Anyone concerned about donations to any individuals acting on behalf of a nonprofit, should contact the respective nonprofit’s executive director for validation of their donation.
